Olympic
Champion Plushenko joined training camp in Mittenwald
The modest ice rink
of Mittenwald, Germany, welcomed prominent guests from July 20 to
August 1. For the second time, Alexei Mishin came to Bavaria for a
summer training camp with his international students including
Olympic Champion Evgeni Plushenko. Mishin was assisted by former
Georgian Champion Vakhtang Murvanidze and the Ukrainian Igor Novodran
as well as by choreographers David Avdish and Evgeni Kovtun from St.
Petersburg.
Not only Plushenko,
but also Mishin’s students Andrei Lutai, Artur Gatchinski, Artur
Dmitriev jr (son of the two-time Olympic Pairs Champion) and Lisa
Tuktamysheva participated. Japan’s Fumie Suguri joined the camp and
later decided to stay with Mishin. Some of the younger skaters came
from Great Britain, Sweden, the USA and Russia.
Plushenko trained
very hard and even landed the quad toe again. Lutai was working on
two new programs with choreographer Kovtun: A short program to
“Carmina Burana” and a long program to “Peer Gynt” in a
modern arrangement. There were even two little shows in Mittenwald,
but Plushenko didn’t perform in order to rest his knee.
