Interview with Philipp Tischendorf in Berlin, December 2011
Q: I’m pleased to meet you on the occasion of the show „Stars&Sternchen“ here in Berlin. You have abandoned your carreer as a figure skating now. Could you briefly explain what contributed to this decision, please?
A:Essential was, that I had a deficit on the ice, caused by several injuries. My mind felt not ready to compensate this deficit. During the training I felt that I had reached certain limits of myself; it was the same with specific jumping techniques. Another reason may have been that I hadn’t had as much time for training as I wanted. Finally, the main reason was that, due to the injuries, I had such a deficit that I decided that I won’t be able to catch up.
Q: It was a moving moment when you had taken your leave at the show, especially for your fans, who travelled from Japan to Berlin only for this. What did you feel?
A: Well, it had been a great show for me. The farewell celebration was amazing, a nice interview with the responsible coach of Berlin, Mr Ketterer. When he asked, what the three greatest moments had been, I hadn’t known myself at this time, because he did the interview during the show, therefore, now after the show, I have to add that, too. Well, this hasn’t been a contest, I talked only about the three greatest moments in my contests. Definitely, the greatest moment had been (and that I have still in front of my eyes) after the FS at the Euro’s in Warsaw, being a good one eventually. The thousands of people applauding, and this had been an unbelievable, amazing moment. But this moment yesterday was emotionally one step higher, And, what’s more, it has been a very special program. And the audience had acknowledged this very well, and supported me and accompanied me enthusiastically. This has been one of the greatest moments!
Q:You’ve surprised with an impressing program. The title of the song was “At the window”. Who played the violine that accompanied you?
A: That was Georgi Gogow, the violinist of the band „City“. A band, popular in the former GDR (German Democratic Republic) at first, but with “At the window” they started to be popular in Europe e.g. in Hungary. One know the melody of the song. Maybe not the title, but if you hear the melody you will recognise it. I know Joro (Georgi Gogow) very well, he is the grandfather of my niece, the daughter of my elder sister and her ex-husband. He is a musician, too. Joro is his father.
Q: Who had the idea?
A: The idea has been around for several years. We joked about a musical gig very often on family events, and especially during Christmas time, but never considered it because either I had to prepare for contests or he was on tour with his band. This time it was the perfect opportunity. The idea was born four weeks ago. I think it was my sister Nadine who said ”Why not ask…” Then I asked him, and he replied immediately “Yes, of course! If not now, then never. It has to be now, it will be more difficult later.” Both of us were excited, and for me it was pretty clear that it has to be this song. I’ve chosen the part with much violine solo, in order to emphasise his play. It is a great program. One knows it, but I’ve chosen the more uncommon parts. One hasn’t heard this violine solo with those notes dashing through the space. This idea exists for a long time, but we implemented it four weeks ago. And it was a great decision.
Q:You’ve mentioned the excited audience. Is this motivation to perform in ice shows in future?
A:It has been such a great program! Actually I intended only one performance, mainly with this program. If I skate this program again, I would skate this only together with him-because it’s so special…and because it is well received if there is another artist on the ice. But actually it has been clear for me that it is the only show- but wait and see. I’m going on holidays beginning of January, but if there would be requests and it suits Joro – Sure, why not? Well, I can imagine to perform this again very well.
Q: What are your plans and aims for the future?
A: Starting in January I’m for three months in New Zealand making a dream come true - to travel for a long period. This desire to travel was created by practising my sport. If one gets to know cities, people and other cultures when participating in contests. That I want to deepen with a longer stay in New Zealand. I thought, if I ever will have time, I have it now. Later it will be more difficult due to profession and family. I will be back on 30th March and on 31th March will be the assessment test for the university in Amsterdam because I want to become a physiotherapist. I hope I will be successful, and if so, I will start the studies in August in Amsterdam.
Q: Is there something you would like to tell your fans:
A:Looking back, one is thinking more and more about the past and the outcome. I must say, four, five, six years ago it was nice to have fans supporting me. But I wasn’t aware about the significance of fans. During the last years and months I realised, that competitive sports is a thing one does mainly for oneself, but when performing in shows, one realises how satisfying applause is. Well, the importance of the fans has increased over time. Yesterday there had been such a moment, when I thought “wow”. Of course, there weren’t 1500 fans of mine, but all being somehow impressed by what I’ve shown to them. Simply a big, big thank you to all who liked my skating. I’m not off completely, maybe one can see me in the one or other show. Again a big compliment to all who kept sticking to me and supported me, having sent birthday – and Christmas cards… Thank you

Ich freue mich, dich anlässlich der Show “Stars und Sternchen”
hier in Berlin zu treffen. Du hast ja deine Eiskunstlaufkarriere
beendet. Erzählst du uns bitte kurz, was zu dieser Entscheidung
beigetragen hat?
A:
Entscheidend war, dass ich nach mehreren Verletzungen Rückstand auf
dem Eis hatte. Ich habe mich im Kopf nicht mehr dazu bereit gefühlt
das aufzuholen. Ich habe im Training gespürt, dass ich an gewisse
Grenzen meinerseits stieﾟ,
also auch mit gewissen Techniken bei Sprüngen. Es lag sicher auch
daran, dass ich nicht mehr so oft trainieren konnte wie ich das
gewollt hätte. Also letztendlich war der Hauptgrund, dass ich wegen
der vielen Verletzungen einen solchen Rückstand hatte, dass ich
für mich entschieden habe, dass ich den Anschluss nicht mehr
schaffe.
Q:
Es war ein sehr bewegender Moment als du in der Show verabschiedet
wurdest, auch für deine Fans die deswegen sogar aus Japan angereist
sind. Wie hast du es empfunden?
A:
Also das war ein groﾟartiges
Schaulaufen für mich. Die Verabschiedung war toll und es war ein
schönes Interview durch meinen ehemaligen Landestrainer in Berlin,
Herrn Ketterer. Als er mich nach meinen drei schönsten Momenten
befragte, da wusste ich es noch gar nicht, denn das Interview wurde
ja während der Show geführt. Aber jetzt nach der Show muss ich das
mit hinzunehmen. Also es war ja kein Wettkampf, ich habe ja nur von
den drei schönsten Momenten in Wettkämpfen erzählt. Der schönste
war definitiv und das habe ich immer noch vor Augen: nach der Kür
bei der Europameisterschaft in Warschau, die ja auch gut war. Es
waren ja auch ein paar Tausend Leute da, die applaudiert haben und
das war ein unglaublich toller Moment. Aber das gestern war emotional
noch eine Stufe höher, weil es auch so eine spezielle Nummer war,
die ich gelaufen bin. Und das Publikum hat das auch so toll
angenommen und mich so toll unterstützt und begeistert begleitet.
Das war einer der schönsten Momente!
Q: Es
war ein beeindruckendes Programm, mit dem du überrascht hast. Der
Titel des Stückes war "Am Fenster". Wer hat dich auf der
Violine begleitet?
A:
Das war Georgi Gogow, der Violinist der Band City. Eine populäre
Band, erst hauptsächlich in der ehemaligen DDR. Aber mit diesem Song
"Am Fenster" wurden sie dann ziemlich bekannt in Europa wie
z.B.auch in Ungarn. Diesen Song kennt man von der Melodie her.
Vielleicht nicht den Titel, aber wenn man die Melodie hört dann
erkennt man ihn. Ich kenne Joro (Georgi Gogow) sehr gut, denn er ist
der Groﾟvater
meiner Nichte, der Tochter meiner älteren Schwester und deren
Ex-Mann. Dieser ist auch Musiker und Joro ist sein Vater.
Q:
Wer hatte denn diese Idee?
A:
Die Idee hatten wir schon mehrere Jahre. Wir hatten diesbezüglich
des öfteren Faxen gemacht bei Familienfeiern und gerade in der
vorweihnachten Zeit, dass wir mal zusammen auftreten. Aber näher in
Betracht gezogen haben wir es nie weil ich mich entweder auf
Wettkämpfe vorbereitet habe oder er war unterwegs mit seiner Band.
Jetzt bot es sich ganz einfach an. Diese Idee ist erst vor vier
Wochen entstanden. Ich glaube meine Schwester Nadine war es, die
gesagt hat "frag doch mal ... " Dann habe ich angefragt und
er hat sofort gesagt "Ja, das machen wir! Wann wenn nicht jetzt!
Es muss jetzt passieren, denn später wird es eher schwieriger."
Wir waren beide begeistert und für mich war klar, dass es dieser
Song sein musste. Ich habe den Part genommen, in dem viel Geigensolo
ist, damit er auch zur Geltung kommt. Es ist ja eine tolle Nummer.
Man kennt es zwar, aber die Stellen die ich genommen habe, die waren
jetzt nicht so bekannt. Man hat dieses Geigensolo nicht so oft gehört
mit diesen Tönen, die da durch den Raum flitzen. Diese Idee gab es
also schon sehr lange, aber die Umsetzung ist erst vor vier Wochen
entstanden. Und es war eine tolle Entscheidung.
Q: Du
hast es eben schon angesprochen, dass das Publikum begeistert war.
Motiviert dich das jetzt weiterhin in Shows aufzutreten?
A: Es
war so eine tolle Nummer! Eigentlich hatte ich es so angelegt, dass
es ein einmaliger Auftritt ist, vor allem mit dieser Nummer. Denn
wenn ich diese Nummer noch einmal aufführe, dann möchte ich es nur
mit ihm machen. Weil es eben so speziell ist und weil es eben so gut
rüberkommt wenn da noch ein Künstler mit dort steht. Eigentlich
war für mich klar, dass es eine einmalige Sache ist. Jetzt müssen
wir mal schauen. Ich bin jetzt erstmal ab Anfang Januar verreist.
Aber wenn es Anfragen gibt und wenn Joro auch Zeit und Lust hat -
klar, warum nicht! Also ich kann es mir sehr, sehr gut vorstellen,
das nochmals aufzuführen.
Q:
Wie geht es denn jetzt weiter? Welche Pläne und neue Ziele hast du?
A:
Ich bin ab Januar für 3 Monate in Neuseeland und erfülle mir den
langen Traum einmal länger auf Reisen zu sein. Diese Reiselust ist
durch den Sport erst entstanden. Wenn man durch Wettkämpfe andere
Städe, andere Leute und andere Kulturen kennen lernt. Das möchte
ich jetzt ein bisschen vertiefen durch einen längeren Aufenthalt in
Neuseeland. Ich habe mir gedacht, wenn ich die Zeit habe, dann habe
ich sie jetzt. Später wird es vielleicht mit einem Beruf und Familie
schwierig. Am 30. März komme ich zurück und am 31. März habe ich
eine Aufnahmeprüfung an einer Universität in Amsterdam, weil ich
dort Physiotherapie studieren möchte. Ich hoffe, dass ich angenommen
werde und wenn es so läuft wie ich es mir erhoffe, dann geht es im
August in Amsterdam mit dem Studium los.

Gibt es etwas, was du deinen Fans sagen möchtest?
A.
Man denkt im Rückblick viel mehr nach über die vergangene Zeit und
was sie gebracht hat. Ich muss sagen, vor 4,5,6 Jahren war es schön
Fans zu haben, die einen unterstützen. Aber es war nicht klar, welch
groﾟen
Stellenwert Fans überhaupt haben. In den letzten Jahren und Monaten
ist mir eigentlich erst klar geworden, dass man den Leistungssport
zwar in erster Linie für sich macht, aber wenn man dann in Shows
auftritt, merkt man erst einmal wie sehr man mit sich zufrieden ist
wenn alle applaudieren. Also die Bedeutung der Fans hat immer mehr
zugenommen. Es war gestern auch wieder so ein Moment wo ich dachte
"wow". Sicherlich saﾟen
da jetzt nicht 1500 Fans von mir, aber alle waren angetan von dem was
ich gezeigt habe. Einfach mal ein riesen-, riesengroﾟes
Dankeschön an alle, die sich für mein Laufen begeistert haben! Ich
bin ja nicht ganz weg und vielleicht sieht man mich ja noch in der
einen oder anderen Show. Also auf jeden Fall nochmals ein ganz groﾟes
Kompliment an alle, die immer zu mir gehalten und mich unterstützt
haben, Geburtstagskarten und Weihnachtsgrüﾟe
geschickt haben...ganz lieben Dank!
